Eric
Schaffner joins the Boise Summer League as
the head coach of the Nampa Rapids. The Rapids
club has claimed two of the three BSL championships
under former Coach Rusty Keith of Wenatchee
Valley Community College. Coach Schaffner
is currently the pitching coach for Crusaders
of Northwest Nazarene University (NCAA DII)
in Nampa, Idaho. In his first year with NNU,
Coach Schaffner lead the pitching staff to
the best overall numbers since moving to the
NCAA ranks.
Coach Schaffner came to the Crusaders after
playing professional baseball for seven seasons,
most notably in the New York Yankees organization
from 1994 to 1999. While in the Yankee organization,
Schaffner compiled a career Earned Run Average
of 3.85 over five minor league seasons. Schaffner
also pitched for the Aloha Knights of the
Pacific International League in 1999 and for
the Bonn Capitals of the German Bundesliga
First Division in 2002.
Coach
Schaffner resides in Nampa, Idaho with his
wife Kim and son Mikey.
